Environmental Sustainability Management Indicators
Climate change is one of the environmental issues currently of concern to the United Nations, governments, society, and the business sector. Tong Hsing has established the following sustainable environmental management objectives in accordance with relevant international standards.
At the same time, to strengthen the linkage between the company’s sustainable environmental management indicators and managerial performance, two sub-KPIs—external ESG assessment results and environmental energy-saving indicators—are incorporated into managerial performance evaluations. The achievement of these KPIs serves as the basis for determining incentive compensation, with ESG indicators weighted at 10%. KPI achievement levels are classified as A+, A, B, and C, and are linked to variable compensation for managers.
Greenhouse Gas Management
Tong Hsing with the Climate Change Response Act and assesses greenhouse gas emissions from its operations in accordance with the international standard ISO 14064-1:2018. The company discloses its annual greenhouse gas emissions. In 2024, Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions totaled 64,624 tCO₂e, an increase of 1.61% compared to 2023. Electricity consumption is the company’s primary source of greenhouse gas emissions. Moving forward, Tong Hsing will continue to implement reduction plans for electricity usage and increase adoption of renewable energy, striving to optimize energy management and control, and remain committed to achieving energy-saving and carbon reduction goals.
Water Resource Management
Water is a vital resource for sustaining life and ecological balance on Earth. Tong Hsing is committed to improving water resource management. Since 2021, the company has gradually invested in wastewater recycling and treatment systems for grinding and cutting processes, using ultrafiltration membranes and plate-and-frame filter presses to treat water and enable process water reuse. In 2024, Tong Hsing’s total water withdrawal was 1,338,726 tons, and recycled water volume reached 5,671,920 tons. Compared to 2023, total water withdrawal increased by 13.66%, while recycled water decreased by 31.50%. Tong Hsing will continue to maximize water use efficiency and continually enhance water resource management.
Waste Management
Tong Hsing follows its environmental policy by assessing the environmental impact of raw materials from the source and managing waste through energy and resource KPIs at each plant. The company strengthens waste reduction and recycling across collection, storage, transfer, and disposal, while applying circular economy concepts to promote reuse and a second lifecycle for process waste. In 2024, total waste decreased by 54 tons (3.23%)
compared to 2023, and Tong Hsing remains committed to environmental protection.
Energy-Saving Measures in 2024
A total of 18 energy-saving projects were implemented, including 2 lighting system projects, 5 equipment upgrades, 5 equipment parameter optimizations, and 6 other management-related measures. Total environmental expenditure amounted to NTD 18.46 million, achieving total electricity savings of 1.66 million kWh.
The total procurement amount for newly added energy-saving equipment was NTD 18.35 million, with total electricity savings reaching 1.662 million kWh.
